Orchard Lake Campground Chess Tournaments 2001
September 8, 2001
Fourteen players entered the open tournament and seven entered the scholastic tournament for players rated under 1000.  Joshua Suich scored a perfect 4.0 in the open tournament to win first prize.  Cody Oyama won first place in the scholastic with only one loss coming in a cross-section pairing that was made to avoid a repeat pairing since the section was so small.  Prizes were paid at 50% even though the 21 players were far less than the projected 60. The weather was perfect and the players enjoyed boating, golf, and other activities between rounds.  Althought the attendance was less than desired, the tournament was truly a success.

Next year's tournament will be Saturday, June1, 2002.  The format will return to the single section with reduced entry fees for lower-rated players.  See details at: http://www.ioa.com/~hyde/orch02.htm

Facilities at Orchard Lake Campground include swimming, boating, fishing, 9-iron par 3 golf, horse shoes, hiking, volleyball, basketball, soccer, and more. Directions to Orchard Lake Campground:  From downtown Saluda, head west past fire station on Greenville St which becomes Mtn Page Rd.  After 3.5 miles, turn left onto Mine Mountain Rd.  Go 1.5 miles to campground entrance.
