The near-term goal for my career is aquire both functional and leadership experience utilizing my quantitative analysis background. My current position has provided exposure to many functions and I want to expand on these. I have had 9 years with PRC Inc in northern Virginia and 12 years with GE Lighting Systems in Hendersonville, North Carolina.

My experience on a small IT staff supporting manufacturing, supply chain, sourcing, and finance adds to the knowledge aquired in rigorous engineering and MBA programs. My expertise is with Oracle and Progress databases, Rhythm Factory Planner, and HP-UX operating systems. I primarily support an ERP package called MFG/PRO (by QAD) on the Progress database platform. I'm excited to be working with current technology in a small town in the mountains where I can apply my skills and see results. The environment is perfect for families and we're involved in Venturing and chess. I am very involved with the GE Elfun chapter: I was Elfun of the Year in 2001 and a GE Phillippe Award winner in 2002.

I prefer a new position within GE, but would consider any position within the Greenville - Spartanburg - Asheville area since I would not have to relocate away from my wonderful small town. The right opportunity would take preference over location (especially if I could find another wonderful small town).
This document has several sections corresponding to areas of my life:
I am an experienced Progress and Oracle DBA, Unix system administrator, and general problem solver. I've got engineering bachelors and business masters degrees; plus, I've completed all course work (over fifty credits) in an information technology doctoral program. I am able to participate and lead in many things simultaneously in life such as work, church, school, Army Reserve, and Scouting. I'm conservative, loyal, and patriotic. In particular, I'm proud to be a Promise Keeper, Army Reserve engineer officer, chess coach, Boy Scout unit commissioner, and home-schooling dad. I'm a U.S. citizen with a secret security clearance.

This diagram shows the concurrency of my education, military, and work experience:

Job Experience

GE Lighting Systems, Inc.
June 1996 - present.

Technical Leader and IT Account Manager.
As part of a small IT team responsible for many systems at GELS, I obtained excellent technical and cross-functional leadership experience while earning GE certification as a "green belt" in the six sigma quality initiatives:

PRC Inc. (now Northrop Grumman IT)
June 1987 to June 1996

I spent nine years working different jobs on contracts supporting the Total Army Personnel Command .
November 1995 - June 1996. Senior Open Systems Engineer.
I was the team leader on two tasks to migrate COBOL programs from a mainframe MVS and DATACOM/DB database environment to an RS/6000 AIX and Oracle RDBMS environment. I got lots of experience in embedded SQL to access the Oracle7 database, Korn shell scripting to replace JCL, and Micro Focus COBOL. We used AIX on an IBM RS/6000 and Linux on two Pentium servers.
January 1995 - August 1995. Senior Systems Analyst.
I supported the U.S. Personnel Information Systems Command with research concerning implementation of the Capability Maturity Model (CMM) for Software.
March 1993 - November 1995. Senior Computer Analyst.
I participated in the development of a distributed system for the Total Officer Personnel Management Information System (TOPMIS) within a client/server environment. I performed database administration for the Oracle7 database and solved connectivity problems for developers using object-oriented PowerBuilder and FormFlow to build the client/server TOPMIS. I also did AIX system administration including TCP/IP network setup over Ethernet. I assisted in analyzing and re-engineering the business processes to enable more efficient officer management.
November 1992 - October 1993. Project Engineer.
I performed business re-engineering and data modeling for the United States Marine Corps utilizing IDEF methodology. I facilitated working groups of Marine logistics experts at various locations throughout the United States.
August 1992 - March 1993. Application Developer.
I developed and enhanced a new Data Element Standardization System (DESS). I migrated old applications from Oracle version 5 on a Unisys 5000/95 to Oracle version 6 on an IBM RISC System/6000 and performed Bourne shell scripting, Oracle database administration, and AIX system administration.
November 1991 - July 1992. Project Engineer.
As the PRC representative on the Total Army Personnel Operations Integration (TAPOI) task force, I supported Integrated Definition (IDEF) analysis to integrate the Active Army, Army Reserve, and National Guard personnel centers. I worked with senior Army officials from all components as well as Wizdom Systems employees.
May 1991 - November 1991. Database/System Administrator.
I administered an Oracle database and Unix system on a Unisys 5000/95 machine. I enhanced applications and assembled deliverables for the RCAS data standardization project and used SQL*Plus, SQL*Report, SQL*Loader, SQL*Forms, FORTRAN and COBOL in performance of duties.
December 1989 - May 1991. System Engineer.
As part of the operations center system administration team, I performed maintenance on all personal computers in the operations center. I administered local area networks and a Unix system and performed database administration for Oracle and DATACOM/DB databases.
